Belgian media reports that the authorities have searched the Arlon production plant and other locations in connection with the salmonella poisoning that came to light in April.

The Arlon public prosecutor’s office in southern Belgium has confirmed that six searches were carried out on Wednesday 8 June as it proceeds with an investigation into how hundreds of tonnes of contaminated chocolate products made at Ferrero’s plant in Arlon were allowed to make it into stores.

A wave of salmonella infections reported in spring led to the authorities

After denying the alleged presence of Salmonella in some of its products, Ferrero admitted that it had found the presence of the bacteria on 15 December 2021 in its Arlon factory.

As reported by Sud Info, Anne-Sophie Guilmot, the deputy public prosecutor for Luxembourg province, said that in addition to the search of the Arlon plant, authorities carried out two other searches in Brussels and three in the grand duchy, where the Italian group has its registered headquarters

Documents and computer equipment were seized but no arrests have been made, Guilmot said in a statement.
