Banque et Caisse d’Épargne de l’État was once again one of the world’s top 10 “safest banks” this year, a prestigious industry publication has found.

Luxembourg’s state savings bank was named the ninth safest bank in the September 2013 edition of Global Finance, magazine read by financial executives in 163 countries.

It was Global Finances 22nd annual safe banks rankings, and BCEE has been featured at the top of the tables for several years running.

“Winners were selected through an evaluation of long-term credit ratings--from Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch--and total assets of the 500 largest banks worldwide,” the publication said on its website.

Global Finance said the world’s three safest banks were KfW of Germany, Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten of the Netherlands, and Zürcher Kantonalbank of Switzerland. The other top ten institutions were all based in Germany, the Netherlands or France.

In a press statement on Wednesday, BCEE said the recognition “confirmed its long-term strategy” and that it “intends to continue on the path that has earned it the trust of clients and so many both domestic and international financial stakeholders.”

The bank was also named the ninth safest in Western Europe 2013 and “best developed markets bank” in Luxembourg.

BCEE and the other world’s ten safest banks will be presented an award at a ceremony during the joint annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, which will be held October 11 to 13 in Washington.
