“Bertrand’s arrival is excellent news for our European business,” said Jeff Mouton, CEO of Mirabaud Wealth Management Europe, in a press release. “His deep experience, both in asset management and business development, will be a real plus for our bank. Together, we will continue to develop Mirabaud Wealth Management’s European business, building on our unique value proposition, which combines ultra-personalised service, distinctive and innovative offerings, a robust platform and local market knowledge.”
The new head of wealth management commented: “I am delighted to be joining an independent bank on a human scale and with a resolutely entrepreneurial vision. Mirabaud has many strengths that will enable it to expand its wealth management activities in this market, especially by strengthening its booking centre at the European level.”
With 20 years’ experience, Bertrand Schmeler will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for continuing the development of Mirabaud Wealth Management in Luxembourg, with a focus on the European market.
A graduate of ICN Business School in Nancy, Schmeler began his career in 1996 as an interest rate and derivatives trader, before becoming a portfolio manager for the bank now known as Banque Transatlantique in Luxembourg. In 2000, he joined what is now BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg to help manage leading balanced funds for private banking clients. In 2001, at Commerzbank Luxembourg, he set up an asset management project dedicated to private clients and the bank’s own capital before heading the local investment committee and becoming a member of Commerzbank Private Banking's global investment committee. In 2006, he joined the group behind the creation (from scratch) of Compagnie de Banque Privée, an independent Luxembourg private bank (which later merged with Quilvest), where he led the investment strategy and helped set up the bank’s private banking and asset management activities.
