Semedo launched a procedure to terminate the contract of one of her assistants in December 2021 due to alleged unprofessional conduct, according to RTL. This led to her former subordinates filing a complaint. The European Parliament's harassment committee will be in charge of carrying out the inquiry.
Monica Semedo is said to be contesting these new allegations and deploring the fact that the confidentiality of the procedure has been violated by allowing the allegations to become public knowledge before the investigation is terminated.
In January 2021, Monica Semedo was suspended for 15 days for psychological harassment. Following the announcement of the suspension during a public session at the European Parliament, Semedo, in a press release, apologised and accepted the suspension.
She subsequently stepped down from her Luxembourg party, the DP, saying she did not feel supported. She has since remained an independent member of the European Parliament and continued her work following her her two weeks of absence.
