A new investigation is reportedly underway at the European Parliament following at least one complaint of psychological harassment against MEP Monica Semedo which she denies. A year ago, she was suspended following complaints from her assistants for the same reason.

Semedo launched a procedure to terminate the contract of one of her assistants in December 2021 due to alleged unprofessional conduct, according to RTL. This led to her former subordinates filing a complaint. The European Parliament's harassment committee will be in charge of carrying out the inquiry.

In January 2021, Monica Semedo was suspended for 15 days for psychological harassment. Following the announcement of the suspension during a public session at the European Parliament, Semedo, in a press release, apologised and accepted the suspension. 

She subsequently stepped down from her Luxembourg party, the DP, saying she did not feel supported. She has since remained an independent member of the European Parliament and continued her work following her her two weeks of absence.
