Italian ambassador Diego Brasioli appreciates culture, whether he’s visiting the Lëtzebuerg City Museum or walking along the Corniche with its scenic views.
“It’s a very nice experience that I always let Italian delegations have when they are visiting the city,” he explains.
He values the Italian embassy’s official residence, a 19th-century ‘maison de maître’. “Its beautiful salons allow me to enjoy my personal collection of oriental rugs and art that has grown over the course of my career in Asia and the Middle East. Its vast garden is a quiet and well-kept place, an authentic oasis of peace and tranquility in the city centre.”
He and his wife, Giovanna Gnerre Landini, can often be seen walking around town with their four dogs. “Our walks very happily end in the city center, where we enjoy a good Italian espresso in our favorite café; this has now become almost a daily habit for us.”
Italians make up one of the largest expat communities in the grand duchy. It’s the embassy’s role to act “as an ‘opportunity multiplier’ in bilateral relations with the host country”, and he’s engaged on three key fronts: consular assistance, “an ever-increasing level of economic and political excellence between our countries” and encouraging cooperation in various areas.
