Luxembourg film maker Laurent Prim’s Lupus has been awarded Best Short Film at the International New York Film Festival.

Produced by Skill Lab, Lupus is written directed and edited by Prim, whose previous short film (Feierblumm Productions), a two-hander starring Jules Werner, and Fabienne Hollwege, was screened at the Luxembourg City Film Festival in 2016.

The film focuses on central character Marcel, played by veteran actor Pol Greisch. A widowed farmer who lives alone with his trusted dog, Marcel finds the bodies of several dead chickens in his barn and seems convinced that the devastation is the handiwork of a wolf. But he has trouble trying to persuade his sceptical son Tun (the seemingly ubiquitous Luc Schiltz), a local police man, that they need to do something about the wolf.

The film also features Germain Wagner and Michel Tereba. Lupus received support from the Luxembourg Film Fund, was made with plenty of local talent including director of photography Graham Johnston, art director Stéphanie Blondel, sound recordist Ken Rischard and make-up artist and hair stylist Sophie Garlinskas. The film’s original music was composed by Emre Sevindik.

“It’s always a great joy to get a prize, even from a smaller festival,” Skill Lab’s Julien Becker told Delano. “But I’m not sure about the impact of such a prize. In the end, what is important for us and Laurent is that his film is seen on big screens around the world.”
