Luxembourg’s first cookery school for children was inaugurated on 17 September and offers youngsters between the ages of 3 and 15 a chance to dive into the culinary world.

Joëlle Hinger, the school’s founder created a cooking blog during the lockdown in 2020 called : "MAmma WAt KAche mer haut" ("Mummy, what are we cooking today?"). She has now taken the MAWAKA abbreviation as the title of her new cookery school following the success of her online venture.

The cookery school was inaugurated on 17 September in the presence of family minister (DP) and members of the Luxembourg City Council, Christa Brömmel and Cathy Fayot. The aim MAWAKA is to promote to children the benefits of eating healthy and to teach them the basics of cooking.

“Cooking and baking are rewarding activities that allow children to develop their autonomy and creativity and, consequently, their self-confidence,” states a press release by MAWAKA.

The courses offered by the school cover the basics of fresh seasonal produce selection, cleaning, preparation and following of age-appropriate recipes. It also hosts workshops for schools, nurseries, and special events for Halloween, St Nicholas’ Day or Easter.
