As the season draws to a close, the Philharmonie ends the year on a symphonic note. June brings together major orchestras, large-scale repertoire, film music and open-air celebration, a nice way to go full circle, look back on the season while building toward what comes next.

01.06. Sir Simon Rattle & LSO

Recorded tapes in dialogue with the orchestra? This is Roberto Gerhard’s «Symphony N° 3 ‹Collages›». It demands great precision from the musicians and conductor… an easy feat for the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle! This season, they return to the Grand Auditorium for our ears’ greatest delight, also performing Gustav Mahler’s heavenly «Symphony N° 4», alongside Richard Strauss’s «Four Last Songs», one of the composer’s final and most reflective works.

05.06. Rachmaninov & Shostakovich

Some pieces don’t just need skill – they demand nerves of steel. And when music like this pushes performers to the edge, the thrill is unmatched. Sergei Rachmaninov’s «Piano Concerto N° 3» and Dmitri Shostakovich’s «Symphony N° 6» are both notorious for their intensity, whether in sheer technical firepower or unexpected twists and turns. As the season enters its final stretch, this is music that challenges, surprises and leaves no room to hide. With Francesco Piemontesi and the Luxembourg Philharmonic under Daniele Rustioni, expect an electrifying performance where every note is a high-wire act.

11.06. Alexandre Desplat: From Paris to Hollywood

Oscars, Grammys, Césars, BAFTA, Golden Globes… The question isn’t what Alexandre Desplat won for his film scores, but what he didn’t win! His impressive catalogue includes the music from «The Grand Budapest Hotel», «Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows», «The King’s Speech» and «The Imitation Game». He brings these iconic scores to the stage of the Grand Auditorium, conducting the Luxembourg Philharmonic himself.

28.06.  Orchestre Place de l’Europe

Five years, one shared voice, a sound that keeps on growing. Since its founding in 2021, the Orchestre Place de l’Europe has brought together musicians from diverse backgrounds, united by a love of music and a strong spirit of community. Under the baton of Benjamin Schäfer, they’ve grown into a bold and evolving ensemble. For their fifth anniversary, they close the season with an all-Tchaikovsky programme: the drama of «Romeo and Juliet», the brilliance of the «Variations on a Rococo Theme» and the power of the «Fifth Symphony». Come hear them live and celebrate this milestone with them!

One last symphonic stretch before the summer begins. And the season has a few more iconic moments in store: the free open-air concert at the Kinnekswiss and the End-of-Season-Party are still to come on 04.07. Explore the full programme at philharmonie.lu or on the Phil30 app.
