Following Burberry’s poor results last year--profits down 40%--CEO Jonathan Akeroyd resigned. He was immediately replaced by Joshua Schulman.

Action. Reaction. After the poor results recorded by Burberry last year, a victim of a loss of interest in China, the company’s CEO, Jonathan Akeyrod, who joined the fashion brand at the end of 2021, has resigned. On Monday, Burberry announced the appointment of Joshua Schulman as CEO and executive director.

The 52-year-old American joins Burberry with a proven track record of transformative growth and value creation as CEO of global luxury, fashion and retail businesses. Schulman was previously CEO of US fashion brands Michael Kors (2021-2022) and Coach, where he was also brand president (2017-2020).

Prior to that, at Neiman Marcus Group, he was president of Bergdorf Goodman for five years. From 2007 to 2012, Joshua was CEO of Jimmy Choo in London.

Earlier in his career, Schulman was executive vice president/merchandising and global sales at Yves Saint Laurent and global director/women’s ready-to-wear at Gucci.

Schulman will join Burberry on 17 July 2024 and will be based at the company’s headquarters in London. He will lead the executive committee and report to Burberry chairman Gerry Murphy and the board.

“I am delighted that Josh is joining Burberry as its new chief executive," commented Chairman Gerry Murphy. "Josh is a proven leader with an exceptional track record of building global luxury brands and driving profitable growth. He has a strong understanding of our brand and shares our ambition to build on Burberry’s unique creative heritage."
