In 2024, the provided emotional, administrative and financial support to 180 children and their families, including 30 new patients aged between 0 and 17.
To mark International Childhood Cancer Day on 15 February, the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner would like to remind everyone that paediatric cancers (leukaemia, brain and spinal cord tumours, neuroblastoma, lymphoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma, etc.) are different from adult cancers and cannot be treated in the same way. However, paediatric cancers are considered rare diseases by the industry, which is why very few specific drugs for children with cancer have been developed. What’s more, prevention and early detection are not possible for children today.
The diagnosis of paediatric cancer is experienced by the family as a devastating tsunami, disrupting their daily lives and their idea of the future. From one moment to the next, the child and his or her family will be affected personally, professionally and financially.
Paediatric cancer treatment requires specialised medical care with appropriate healthcare teams. Alongside this hospital care, the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner works to provide comprehensive, personalised support for Luxembourg and cross-border families affiliated to the CNS.
In addition to providing direct aid, the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner is committed to raising public awareness by working regularly with the health sector, private individuals, companies, schools and associations on fundraising, major events and national awareness campaigns.
To improve conditions for sick children and their families, the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner cooperates with national and international players. As a founding member of Capat (Cercle des Associations de Patients), the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner works to federate and defend the common interests of non-profit associations and foundations for the benefit of the patients of these organisations.
Finally, it is crucial to stress the importance for the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner of supporting paediatric cancer research for several reasons: an urgent need for appropriate treatments, a cause that is still under-funded, increasing survival rates and reducing long-term sequelae.
The Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner would like to draw attention to the eighth edition of the Lëtz Go Gold charity run on Saturday 27 September. This is an opportunity for all of us to get involved in supporting research: more information at
