Luxembourg-based alumni of the French business school Insead will be celebrating their association’s 50th anniversary this week. Ahead of an official event, the club’s president talked with Delano about his personal experience with the school and association.

The Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires (Insead) Alumni Association Luxembourg celebrates its fiftieth anniversary on 21 March 2024. The milestone event for the association will also feature a speech on the subject of progress of society and the paradigm evolution of capitalism from Professor Subi Ragan, a chair of strategy & management at Insead.

Delano spoke with , president of the Insead Alumni Association in Luxembourg and CEO of Hitec, for a preview of the group’s celebration, which will take place Thursday evening.

Why Osch chose Insead

Osch started by explaining his background and what drew him towards Insead for his business studies. Though he originally began his higher education studying mechanical engineering at Delft and ETH Zurich, he stated that he always felt drawn to the business implications of technology.

After obtaining a degree in technology management from Delft and entering the job market, Osch decided that he would pursue an MBA and was attracted to Insead largely due to the school’s focus on investing in businesses rather than taking a more corporate approach. As Osch put it, Insead focuses more on “investing [and] running businesses versus [other business schools who offer] a more corporate view of the MBA.”

International diversity at Insead Luxembourg

Osch then stated that his time at Insead greatly prepared him for the international nature of his career through the school’s global vocation. With campuses across the globe in places like Abu Dhabi, Singapore and San Francisco, Insead offers its students a worldwide perspective on the business world and helps them create connections across the planet, he said during the interview. He also emphasised that a key benefit is the lack of an overriding single nationality and the sense of community that results from it. “In other MBAs that are maybe more on the American continent, you’d have a lot of Americans versus other nationalities.” Here in Luxembourg however, “there is no overwhelming nationality.”

Osch emphasised that the diversity in nationalities present at Insead particularly fostered a strong sense of community and belonging in himself. With a penetration rate of well over 50%, one of the highest for alumni associations worldwide (meaning alumni involved in alumni associations divided by total alumni), it is safe to say that many other Luxembourg Insead alumni feel the same way.

Schools are strong because of their alumni network, and a strong alumni network means a strong school.

Osch’s main desire in becoming president of the group was to give back to the school that gave him so much. As Osch put it, “schools are strong because of their alumni network, and a strong alumni network means a strong school.” His goal now and one of the core values of the group “is to be an international alumni association, but rooted in Luxembourg.” This fundamental principle allows the group to help alumni that are new to Luxembourg to familiarise themselves with the area. Osch and his board frequently organise visits to companies in Luxembourg and create connections between alumni and the Luxembourg business community, creating an ideal opportunity for expat Insead graduates. Insead Luxembourg is one of the most active alumni associations in Luxembourg, Osch claimed, with 285 active members from 16 different programmes.

Upcoming Insead Luxembourg events

The 50th anniversary is only one of the many upcoming events in the group’s calendar. Next week, the group will organise their annual Easter family event, which will be an Easter egg hunt in the Luxembourg city centre (weather permitting). The group will then host networking events, topical conferences and company visits on a monthly basis.
