Remaining committed to the community is a core value for Hogan Lovells, globally. It launched a three-year global partnership with WaterAid in early 2023 to advance global access to clean water, decent sanitation and good hygiene (WASH).

A lack of these three essentials has a devastating impact on people’s health, education and livelihoods. WaterAid is working to end the WASH crisis by investing in local communities and driving efforts to influence decision-makers in favour of policy that supports delivering universal, sustainable, and safe WASH.

Since its launch in 1981, WaterAid has reached nearly 29m people with clean water globally. The organization works in 22 countries and has offices in all our regions.

Improved access to WASH aids gender equality, education, economic growth, poverty reduction, health and more. And in the face of climate change, communities will rely on more resilient WASH services. Given the interconnectedness of WASH, ’ partnership with WaterAid will advance progress across various Sustainable Development Goals, including goal 6 (clean water and sanitation), and all four of its responsible business strategic themes:

- Supporting innovation in environmental protection and sustainability

- Advancing racial justice

- Empowering women and girls and supporting youth

- Addressing external crises and change.

Over the three years of this partnership, Hogan Lovells will work with WaterAid to:

- Strengthen systems to achievable sustainable and scalable WASH progress

- Invest in innovative climate adaptation and resilience solutions

- Advance dignity and equality in water access by furthering a human right to water and reducing the disproportionate burden that a lack of WASH places on women and girls.

To date over 650 colleagues have actively engaged in the partnership through volunteering and fundraising initiatives or pro bono support. In Luxembourg, the office raised funds through several initiatives:

- lunches prepared by team members, each Thursday during four weeks

- a music quiz party with family and friends

- a global 4-week sports challenge during which the team reached over 1,500 km in walking, running, cycling, etc.

Through its partnership with WaterAid, Hogan Lovells hope to utilise the firm’s talents and resources to help advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals and WaterAid’s mission of tackling the global WASH crisis.
