Highlights in April at the Philharmonie Crédit: Charles Best Photography

What do Mozart and Gershwin have in common? Genius, creativity, boldness in plenty… and 88 keys! This April, the piano takes us from classical concerti to jazz standards at the Philharmonie. And to top it up, its majestic cousin the organ (a.k.a the King of Instruments) makes a special appearance at the Grand Auditorium. Here’s a sneak peak of our favourite upcoming concerts!

16.04. Midi baroque: «Clavicorde à succès»

Seize the opportunity to hear a unique and once-forgotten instrument, in ! Harpsichordist Anne-Catherine Bucher will demonstrate the sounds and repertoire of the extraordinary «pantalon», a remarkable keyboard instrument, whose strings are struck by wooden hammers, was much admired by King Louis IV of France.

18. & 23.04. Kit Armstrong

In April, . The celebrated pianist Kit Armstrong dedicates two evenings to his music. The first, on 18.04., brings to life some of the composer’s personal favourites, including his unique Quintet for piano and winds. On 23.04, the second concert shows Mozart at his finest – in orchestral proportions!

19.04. «Wayne Marshall: Jazz & The City»

and celebrate the urban landscapes they thrive in. Led by the genre-defying pianist and conductor, Wayne Marshall, we go on a vibrant exploration of the world’s most iconic musical cities: New York and Paris.

20.04. Jason Moran & Frankfurt Radio Big Band

Jason Moran joins forces with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band to bring the great Duke Ellington back to life on one unique evening at the Philharmonie. For the American jazz pianist and composer as for the legend he is paying tribute to, jazz is all about freedom, so

22.04. Maurice Clément: Le grand orgue de la Philharmonie

Some like to call the organ «the king of instruments». Built in 2005, the Philharmonie’s reigns over the Grand Auditorium! 83 stops, four manuals and pedals, , filling the hall with its substantial power, while amazing audiences with its crystal clarity and light touch. And all the while, its unique red pipe towers watch over the hall, bringing architecture to life in music.
