When you move to a new country, what are the first types of insurance you should consider?
Foyer Assurances. – “In Luxembourg, some types of insurance are compulsory, whilst others are strongly recommended to ensure you have adequate cover from the moment you arrive.
The main types of insurance to consider are as follows:
Home contents insurance against fire
Although fire insurance is not a legal requirement in Luxembourg, it is often a condition of a tenancy agreement or a mortgage. Banks generally require property owners to insure the property they are financing in order to protect the building against potential damage.
Personal liability insurance
In Luxembourg, it is compulsory only for dog owners. However, it would be unwise to go without it. It covers many everyday situations, such as when a ball breaks a neighbour’s window or when someone injures themselves by slipping on an icy pavement outside your home.
Motor third-party liability insurance
This insurance is compulsory for all motor vehicles, including cars, motorbikes, caravans and trailers. It covers any damage to property or personal injury you may cause to third parties whilst using your vehicle. However, it does not cover damage to your own vehicle.
Health insurance and supplementary health cover
Employees working in Luxembourg are automatically registered with the National Health Fund (CNS), which provides access to the Luxembourg healthcare system. However, CNS reimbursements do not cover the full cost of medical expenses, meaning that patients are responsible for part of the costs. This is why many residents take out supplementary health insurance in order to benefit from higher reimbursement rates and additional healthcare services.

How do social gatherings and community activities contribute to the well-being and integration of expatriates?
British Ladies Club. – “Social connections are essential, especially when you live far away from your family and long-standing friends. Seeing a friendly face over a coffee, on a walk or at lunch can make all the difference. Our activities help break the isolation, build confidence and forge lasting friendships. They also help our members discover Luxembourg and support one another throughout their time as expats. At BLC Luxembourg, no one has to start from scratch on their own. Whether you’re here for a few months or several years, everyone receives a warm welcome and finds a community ready to help you feel at home.”
Luxembourg attracts talent from all over the world. What are the profiles most sought after by employers today?
Alleyesonme.jobs. – “The Luxembourg labour market is caught between two realities: in terms of volume, it is the social care, healthcare and catering sectors that remain under the greatest pressure – early years educators, nurses and cooks top the Adem list of the 20 professions facing severe shortages by 2026. At the same time, the tech sector is experiencing spectacular growth in demand (job vacancies related to AI have increased fivefold between 2024 and 2025), driven in particular by cybersecurity, regulatory requirements in the financial sector, and roles in compliance and banking risk analysis.”
If you had to introduce someone to Luxembourg through just one Luxlait product, which one would you choose?
Luxlait. – “If I had to introduce someone to Luxembourg through a single Luxlait product, I would choose Kachkéis without a moment’s hesitation. It is a true speciality of Luxembourg’s culinary heritage, and Luxlait is now the only dairy in the country to produce it. Made from skimmed milk and butter, it can be enjoyed either cold on toast or warm, particularly with potatoes. Its unique flavour and authenticity make it an iconic product that perfectly reflects Luxembourg’s local expertise and traditions. A wonderful way to introduce people to our country through a speciality that is as simple as it is delicious.”
