The company is looking to raise €40,000 and ship its first product in December 2019, Keymitt said on its Kickstarter page, which opened up on 22 May.
The outfit’s “smart lock” lets users remotely unlock their door automatically or manually via an app. Potential users include homeowners renting out their place via a service like Airbnb and Homeaway, people letting friends or repairmen into their home, or someone expecting a delivery.
The firm has already received “seed money” from Fath Group, a German industrial conglomerate, which made the investment “eight months ago”, Vlad Gherciu, Keymitt’s CEO and founder, told Delano.
Keymitt has “2 employees in Luxembourg and others 10 worldwide”, Gherciu said.
Gherciu told Delano in 2017 the inspiration for the startup came from his previous enterprise:
“I was running a B&B business [here in Luxembourg] and I found it extremely hard to deal with guest check-in and key handover. Certainly there had to be a better way to handle this.”
Gherciu stated in an email pitch sent earlier this month:
“Our first product is Keymitt, it will upgrade your trusted door lock into a smart lock. No unscrewing, no replacing, just attach Keymitt to your door lock from the inside and now you can use your smartphone to enter the house.”
The outfit said in separate press materials:
“Keymitt is compatible with most standard single-cylinder locks with or without a knob, including EU, US, and Japanese-style locks.”
Its app will be available on both the Apple IOS and Google Play platforms.
