For the new site, a fundraising initiative is in the works to help cover the initial costs. This is similar to how the first Ouni store on rue Glesener opened, which initially saw some 250 volunteers help launch the shop.
According to the announcement, Dudelange was selected for its potential customer base in southern Luxembourg, not to mention what Ouni calls “the dynanism of a local community of inhabitants” through the “Transitioun Diddeleng” initiative, which kicked off in March 2019 and aims to find sustainable solutions for local citizens.
The general assembly of members approved the new store “with great enthusiasm”, and the timing is ripe: several grocery stores are making strides to reduce plastic and other container waste, the most recent being Grosbuch earlier this month.
The Ouni team added that informational sessions will be held in the near future concerning the new shop.
