Landlords are charging an average of more than €1,500 for a flat and twice that for a house across the entire grand duchy, per the Athome survey. Prices are about 22% higher for apartments and 37% higher for houses in the Centre region.
Rent
Over the 12 months to September 2019, rents rose by 6-8%. By comparison, rents increased by 10-16% during the March 2018 to March 2019 period.
Nationally, the average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment was €1,390 a month; the average asking price was €1,576 for all types of apartments or €2,960 for a house. In the Centre region, average rents were €2,018 for an apartment or €3,527 for a house.
Purchasing existing homes
Average asking prices for existing flats were up 14% and up 12% for existing houses over the year to September 2019, according to Athome.
The average budget for a flat, nationally, was €527,757 or more than €6,000 per square metre. In Luxembourg City, the figure was €9,266 per square metre. The average asking prices for existing houses was €859,280, nationally. In the Centre region, it was €1,081,808.
Buying new homes
Average asking prices for newly built homes gained 16%, and for two-bedroom apartments increased 19%, over the 12 months to September 2019. The average for freshly constructed apartments, nationally, was €648,988.
