That’s according to figures published by Eurostat, the EU statistics bureau, on 5 November.

The median age of the grand duchy’s population was 39.4 years old in 2018, compared to 43.1 across the entire bloc. That was the third lowest median age in the EU28; only Cyprus (37.5 years old) and Ireland (37.3) were younger.

The highest median ages were recorded in Italy (46.3), Germany (46) and Portugal (44.8).

Eurostat projected the EU median age would “increase by 3.8 years during the next three decades, to reach 46.9 years by 2050.” Malta, Poland Slovakia and Cyprus will grow even older during that timeframe, while Denmark, Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden will age at a slower pace.
