It was announced at the CES in Las Vegas earlier in January that the payment solution would be used in the car eWallet, developed by ZF Friedrichshafen. The partnership was formalised on Tuesday, according to our colleagues at Paperjam.

It effectively means that it will form part of an electronic wallet that can be integrated into cars and will allow remote payment of a parking ticket, a toll or a charge for electric vehicles.

“This is a very important step in our development,” CarPay-Diem founder and CEO Frédéric Stiernon told Paperjam, adding: “We are now reaching car manufacturers, while major oil companies and application developers are testing our system. These are our three target customers.”

The Car eWallet was developed in cooperation with UBS and IBM. ZF Friedrichshafen is now developing a whole range of products for intelligent mobility. Founded in May 2016 and based in ALD's Shaker incubator, CarPay-Diem has developed a payment system to pay for fuel without having to leave the car.

Thanks to its integration into several applications, this service will be available to 10 million users in the coming weeks in Belgium and France, and is now targeting the German and English markets.
