The system was deployed after the category 5 Hurricane Maria struck the Caribbean country, SES said in a press release.
The satellite operator also stated:
“Another emergency.lu Rapid Response Kit was deployed earlier in the island of Saint Martin to re-establish connectivity to the airport of Sint Maarten, after the Category 5 Hurricane Irma made landfall in the North East Caribbean islands, severely damaging terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure.”
Emergency.lu is a Luxembourg government-backed programme--run with SES, Hitec and Luxembourg Air Rescue--to provide communications to relief organisations in disaster areas.
