1. The Kockelscheuer site
At the gateway to the city of Luxembourg, the Kockelscheuer site is an ideal place to spend time with family or friends. Before eating, take a stroll through the woods or around the pond, or mountain bike along woodland trails. Then during the cooking and aperitif, the little ones can have fun at the playground.
2. Lake Remerschen - "Baggerweier"
As well as letting you enjoy the smoky flavours of the barbecue, this spot will give you a real taste of being on holiday. Stretching over 25 hectares, with beautiful ponds, a large beach, beautiful lawns and areas of water where the young and the young-at-heart can play, Lake Remerschen promises an enjoyable, fun-filled afternoon. There are even beach-volleyball and petanque courts on site. Access to this gorgeous site costs 5€ per person (free for under-10s).
3. Lake Echternach
Luxembourg is full of exceptional green sites. Lake Echternach, which covers 30 hectares, is one of the most famous. Visitors can walk, cycle or roller-skate around the man-made lake. There’s no swimming, but you can go out on the water in a pedalo. Fishing enthusiasts can also try their luck and see if they can tempt a fish… perhaps one that can go on the barbecue. In all, the site includes 375 hectares of woodland, more than enough for a day’s hiking... Anglers with a fishing permit can also try their luck and see if they can tempt a fish… perhaps one that can go on the barbecue.
4. Lake Esch-sur-Sûre Insenborn
Less than an hour from the capital’s city centre, in the north of Luxembourg, lies a small corner of paradise. Lake Esch-sur-Sûre is perfect for those looking for a place to take a dip to cool off this summer. In addition to swimming, this site offers many water sports, such as diving, windsurfing and sailing. Unless you prefer a guided tour in a solar-powered boat? All this activity should help you build up your appetite. Thankfully, the barbecue area is being renovated and the work should be completed soon. The tourist information office will be able to advise you when it’s ready to use.
5. Lake Weiswampach
This is another great site for water lovers. Here you can swim, windsurf, canoe or try out a pedal boat. Bordered by a large lawn, Lake Weiswampach is an ideal place to spend a summer day with family or friends. It is also the starting point of a 25-km-mountain-bike circuit or a 4-km-walking trail, ideal exercise before savoring your grill.
