So said François Bausch, the mobility and public works minister (Green party), in response to a parliamentary question from Mars Di Bartolomeo (LSAP).

Revamping the runway itself will cost €150m; upgrades to taxiways and other facilities will add another €120m to the project’s total budget.

The bill will be fully footed by Luxairport, Findel’s operator, Bausch stated. Asking for “a contribution to this investment” from Luxembourg’s defence ministry and Nato, which both use the airport, “is not being considered at this stage.”

Work will only be carried out between 11pm and 6am, Bausch noted. That means carriers could conceivably have to re-route late flights to other airports.
