Dudelange was the third commune to announce it was freezing rents on shops and restaurants it owns for the duration of the crisis Dudelange commune

Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette and then on Tuesday Dudelange and Ettelbruck, made the gesture of solidarity for the duration of the crisis.

In the first two communes, it was announced over social media, by Luxembourg City councillor Serge Wilmes and Esch-sur-Alzette mayor Georges Mischo.

Dudelange wrote in a press release that its measures covered the restaurants Parc Le’h, Loxalis and Amarcord, packaging-free grocery store Ouni and the Küb concept store. It wrote: “solidarity must be the key word in these difficult times and the commune invites everyone to adopt a similar approach of solidarity.”

Ettelbruck responded to a request from Delano on Tuesday afternoon saying that it had frozen rents on two shopping centres which it owns for the months of April and May. The suspension could be extended depending on the situation.

Meanwhile, in a Monday press release Nicolas Henckes of Luxembourg’s commercial federation, the CLC, appealed for all landlords to extend a similar gesture, be they public or private.
