Covid-19 positive cases are on the rise with the health ministry reporting an increase to 999 infections for the period of 12 to 18 September compared to 757 the previous week.

Of the total 999 registered positive cases, 423 were reinfections that qualify as a positive result for someone who already had covid. The total number of infections as of 18 September was reported to be 2,066, up from 1.795 seven days previously. The number of PCR tests carried out rose to 5.653 for the analysed period. The average age of those diagnosed with covid was 42.3 years old.

Hospitals saw six new admissions for positive covid-19 cases with only one person currently in the intensive care unit. In the week of 12 to 18 September two death cases were reported.

The effective reproduction rate increased to 1.15 for the analysed week, up from 1.08, and the positivity rate went from 14.72% to 17.67%. Travel abroad was identified as the most frequent source of infection (27%), followed by the family circle (21%) and leisure (11%). The origin of approximately a third (31%) of infections was undetermined.

During the week of 12 to 18 September, 1,428 covid-19 vaccine doses were administered. The latest figures show that 474,598 people have a complete vaccination schedule which represents 79% of the eligible population.

At the start of September The country is preparing for a possible new wave and has reopened the Victor Hugo vaccination centre from 13 September.
