A senior executive in the healthcare technology and pharmaceutical industry sector and an expert in European, Japanese-Asian and global markets, Carole Brückler has been in charge of general management at the economy ministry since 1 March. She was trained in startup and SME environments and has experience in optimising commercial decision-making using machine learning and artificial intelligence tools. She has been a director at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) since 2020, the Société nationale de crédit et d'investissement (SNCI) since October 2022 and the Luxembourg Future Fund since January 2023.
Paperjam: As a female director, do you feel a particular responsibility to champion gender and inclusion issues?
Carole Brückler: The role of a director remains unchanged by gender and it is the responsibility of the director to look after the interests of the institution, including issues of parity and inclusion. This should not be seen as a female responsibility and it would be a shame to put a female director in this niche role without taking advantage of her full range of skills.
In your opinion, how does diversity influence the performance of a board of directors?
Diversity of expertise, experience and thought on a board of directors enriches deliberations through varied perspectives. The diversity experienced in this way improves decision-making and is much broader than gender balance in my experience.
