At the Philharmonie, we strive to contribute to the Classical world’s innovation by welcoming young performers and commissioning new contemporary works. This October, come and enjoy a breath of fresh air at the Philharmonie!
01.10. A rising cello star from Luxembourg
Young Luxembourgish cellist as part of the “Rising stars” programme, an initiative that promotes young talent from all over Europe. He will be performing two works never before presented at the Philharmonie, before bringing to life a new composition by Sally Beamish, Reverie. The British composer created this piece especially for him and was inspired by his description of Luxembourg as a calm and peaceful country.
03.10. A combative and poetic world premiere
Witness ! Mirela Ivičević opens up yet another world of sound with Better Place, a work caught between a hopeful dreamland and the brutal reality. To rise again and again while facing life’s hardships, the composer imagines a better world where suffering fades away and gives way to warmth, radiance and joy. The Luxembourgish ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin will bring this powerful yet soothing piece to life.
15.10. Youthful inspiration
Even famous composers like Richard Strauss had to start somewhere… Young Richard was absolutely fascinated by Johannes Brahms ─ and understandably so! He spoke of “Brahmsschwärmerei”, roughly meaning “infatuation with Brahms”. On 15.10. four rising stars of classical music will perform a piano quartet by Richard Strauss, followed by one of Brahms’. You’ll immediately notice the similarities between the two, proof ─ if need be ─ of Richard Strauss’ inspiration.
25.10. Let there be music
On a musical trip to ancient Rome, a creation by Luxembourgish composer Claude Lenners, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture for the Luxembourg Philharmonic, suddenly appears. Out of the blue is , using classical instruments … and not-so-classical ones! You’ll discover the sound of a waterphone and listen to percussion made from polystyrene sheets and paper. Intriguing, isn’t it?
