Last June, Pierre-Alexandre Rocour, managing director of , had already suggested that the supermarket chain would be further expanding its presence in the grand duchy, where it had 17 shops. As of 23 July, the German retailer will open an 18th shop in Beggen in the Espace shopping center.
The new shop, which has a sales area of some 1,000m2, will replace the Match store. Aldi spent two and a half months renovating the retail unit. In a statement, Aldi said it has paid more attention to sustainability by equipping the supermarket with LED lighting, a heat recovery system and more environmentally friendly CO2 cooling.
“This is a great opportunity for us,” said Yann Schloremberg, senior expansion manager at Aldi Luxembourg. “It means that more people in the region can now benefit from an Aldi shop even closer to home.”
The company has set a target to be have a store within 15 minutes of the home of ever resident in the grand duchy.
